Frequently Asked Questions
How often should my dog or cat have a Wellness Exam?
We recommend a complete physical exam once per year. Once your dog or cat becomes a senior or geriatric patient, we recommend examinations every 6 months.
Are vaccines included in the price of Wellness Exams?
Vaccines are charged separately from the exam This is because we tailor each vaccine protocol to the individual patient’s needs from year to year.
What will my veterinarian check during my dog or cat’s Wellness Exam?
Our veterinarians will examine every major body system from nose to tail. This includes listening to their heart and lungs, checking range of motion of major joints, examining dental health, and overall well being.
What else might be checked during my dog or cat’s Wellness Exam?
If any abnormalities are found, they may perform additional and more thorough examinations such as neurological tests or orthopedic exams. Additionally, if your pet is a senior or if they are exhibiting signs of illness, additional diagnostics such as bloodwork, urine testing, x-rays, ultrasound or skin swabs may be recommended.
Why are these additional tests recommended?
(Screening) Blood testing and urine testing help us to gain a better picture of your pet’s physical health. These tests can detect diseases in an early state such that we can take measures to slow the progression or cure the illness.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare my dog for their Wellness Exam?
We always have treats in the clinic, but if your dog has a special treat they enjoy, or food allergies, please bring it along to the appointment. It is helpful to bring a list of their current medications and a list of questions that you would like addressed if you have not already filled out our e-form.
Is there anything I need to do to prepare my cat for their Wellness Exam?
If your cat is nervous about travel, please reach out in advance of the appointment as we may be able to prescribe anti-anxiety medication or calming feline pheromone spray such as Feliway. If your cat gets suspicious about their kennel, be sure to keep it out of site until you are ready to leave the house as some cats like to hide at the site of their carrier. Or better yet, you can work on kennel training in the months leading up to the appointment.
How long does a typical Wellness Exam take?
Wellness appointments are booked for 30 minutes unless you have specified the need for a 60 minute exam. Occasionally appointments will take longer if additional testing is agreed upon during the appointment, however your veterinary team will always let you know if they expect your appointment to take longer than the standard timeframe.
Do you offer any discounts for multiple pets?
Yes! We have a multi-pet discount when you bring three or more pets to the same appointment.
Do you offer loyalty points?
Yes! Once enrolled within our Central Vet Loyalty Program you will earn points with every purchase or visit. Once you’ve accumulated enough points to be eligible for one of our rewards this can be utilized to save money. This is just one of the ways we thank our loyal clients.
